Spiritual Direction
Is God Calling You to a Deeper Relationship? Has your spiritual life grown a bit stale? Do you feel a thirst for new growth--perhaps sensing something just beyond the horizon? If so, God may be calling you to a deeper relationship through spiritual direction. Spiritual direction is a unique relationship between two persons in which a trained spiritual director offers companionship and encouragement for the faith journey. In an atmosphere of confidentiality and trust, the director and directee focus attention upon the presence and activity of God within the directee’s life. At First United Methodist Church, we have a trained spiritual director within our own congregation. Rev. Terry Smith graduated from the Charis Spiritual Director Training Program, an in-depth, three-year course of study of the Texas Annual Conference.

Stephen Ministry
There are times when every one of us experiences difficulties — a serious illness or disability, a divorce, a job loss, the death of a loved one, or a time of discouragement or loneliness. God never intended for us to go through these difficult times alone. That is why God has brought us together as a congregation and why we have a Stephen Ministry.
Stephen Ministers are lay members of our congregation who have received fifty hours of caregiving training to minister to those within our congregation or in our community who might be going through a difficult time in their lives. A Stephen Minister is an intentional friend who will meet with you—privately and confidentially—on a weekly basis to listen, care, encourage, support, and remind you of Christ’s presence in your life.
If you are interested in serving as a Stephen Minister or if you would like to learn more about Stephen Ministry for yourself or someone else you know, talk to one of our pastors or Stephen Leaders contact:

Walk to Emmaus
A Transforming Experience of Christian Community. The Walk to Emmaus is an experience of Christian spiritual renewal and formation that begins with a three-day short course in Christianity. It is an opportunity to meet Jesus Christ in a new way as God’s grace and love is revealed through other believers. Members of the Emmaus Reunion Groups meet regularly in small groups to reflect on their spiritual journey and encourage one another in accountable discipleship. Emmaus participants meet monthly in Community Gatherings for fellowship, worship and instruction. Emmaus lifts up a way for our grace-filled lives to be lived and shared with others.
